Facebook’s New Rules Set to 'Bolster Discourse' in Australian Election

The social media habits of those taking out political ads in Australia will become more transparent under new Facebook regulations. So reports the Sydney Morning Herald.

ballot 1294935 640 smallBeginning Wednesday, March 18, advertisers will operate under rules already in play in the U.S. and other countries in response to accusations of interference and misinformation in past elections. Political, electoral and social advertisements will need authorization by an Australian-based and Facebook-verified individual. The ads will also need to have disclaimers indicating who paid for them and be linked to an “account, page or organisation nominated by the advertiser.”
