Creepy 'Smile' Campaign Freaks Out Fans Nationwide

This past weekend, baseball watchers across the country were creeped out by some unusual fans. So reports Comicbook.com.

Smile Movie Creepy GirlIn Oakland, a woman with a neon yellow shirt with the word “Smile” scrawled across it sat in the stands behind home plate with a “creepy” smile. She sat completely still, her head straightforward, gazing unflinchingly with a creepy grin. She briefly stood up, only to sit when a security guard instructed her to do so.

In New York, a man in a blue shirt, also behind home plate, sat with a similarly creepy grin at the Yankees-Red Sox game. No matter what happened in the game, his facial expression did not change, his gaze frozen, and his head remaining fixed straight ahead.

Similar smilers appeared at the Dodgers-Cardinals game and behind Al Roker on Today Show.

They were part of viral marketing efforts to promote “Smile,” a new horror flick from Paramount Pictures. In the trailer for the “jump scare” style movie, Dr. Rose Cotter, played by Sosie Bacon, is with a patient who says “I’m seeing something no one else can see, except for me. It’s smiling at me.” There is some screaming before the patient is seen again with a creepy smile and a sharp object, which it is implied she uses to kill herself.
